My name is Nikè Marchand, and I’m a visual artist and painter based in Tilburg, the Netherlands
It all began with the urge to bring my inner world to life in paint and color. As a teenager I had difficulties with explaining what lived inside me. I tried to hide my pain and trauma by always acting joyful and pleasing others, acting like nothing was there to worry about. A formula that had to be broken down in order for me to become healthy and happy. After facing many uncomfortable feelings, i started to look for ways to express these, creating and using color felt like a natural transition into taking up space and sharing a bit of my story.
Since stepping into my creativity more professionally, I’ve been part of lovely projects that shaped me deeply: my first solo exhibition about my Nigerian and Dutch roots at museum OSCAM, multiple collaborations with AVRO TROS, working with local companies in Tilburg, and creating independent projects and commissions across the Netherlands.
Whether through murals, decorative works, or selling paintings, I focus on bringing ideas and thoughts to life.
My work is always evolving, but what people often recognize is the way I translate my inner world. I explore themes layered with emotion, expressed through various creations such as figurative paintings, drawings, and other artistic forms. Orange and purple are my signature colors because they hold the energy I want to share. Purple carries a feminine, sensual, and spiritual pulse, while orange radiates playfulness and warmth
In my paintings and other work, I navigate being mixed race, intimacy, love, sexuality, and the unspoken weight of shame.
